BERTÍ SCHOOL HAS BEEN IN PORTO IN THE SECOND MOBILITY OF STUDENTS AND TEACHERS FROM THE DIFFERENT COUNTRIES WITH WHOM IT SHARES THE “BECOME EUROPEAN MATHS CHAMPIONS” PROJECT.
Bertí School continues with its ERASMUS+ BECOME EUROPEAN MATH CHAMPIONS project and during the week of 15 to 20 May, the second mobility took place in Porto. On this occasion, students and teachers have visited the school Agrupamento de Escolas de Frazão, Paços de Ferreira (Portugal) along with the other countries that are part of the project: Croatia, Greece, Italy and Romania. Cultural and other math-related activities have been combined, always using English as the language of instruction.
On Monday 16th May, the music was responsible for welcoming us with a concert by the students of the host school. Then, the presentations began with which significant cultural aspects of our respective countries were explained. Then, we performed a “Breakout” using the math and QR codes to solve puzzles with the goal of finding the key and opening a box with a surprise inside. Obviously, all the CHAMPIONS students were able to get it in cooperative teams !! Then, technology continued to be the protagonist and activities were carried out with various digital platforms to work on mathematics.
On Tuesday 17th May, we warmed up engines with various proposals for games of ingenuity and mental arithmetic. On Wednesday 18th May, we had the opportunity to fly a drone through the mobile and used the programming language, to later apply it to “Codey Rocky” robots, which ended up in our minds. In the afternoon, we visited the Archaeological Museum of the Citânia de Sanfins and then the ruins of the village from Roman and Medieval times.
On Thursday 19th May, we visited the “Centro Multimeios de Espinho”, where we attended a session at the planetarium and later, we did an experiment to see how gravity affects our weight and how our age changes on each planet considering that each return to the sun corresponds to one year. We performed several calculations to find out that it is different depending on the planet. On the one hand, we would be babies on Neptune and very old on Mercury and on the other hand, we would have a high weight on Jupiter and very light on Pluto. Quite a discovery !!
The afternoons were full of cultural activities to get to know the city of Porto, known, among other things, for its streets full of history and the bridges over the Douro River.
We now look forward to the next school year to continue the mobilities in the other countries of the Erasmus CHAMPIONS project, and thus learn even more about the teaching of European mathematics and culture. In November, we have the following destination: GREECE.
