1ST MOBILITY: BERTÍ SCHOOL (CATALONIA/SPAIN)

BERTÍ SCHOOL HAS RECEIVED THE FIRST MOBILITY OF STUDENTS AND TEACHERS FROM DIFFERENT COUNTRIES WITH WHOM IT SHARES THE “BECOME EUROPEAN MATHS CHAMPIONS” PROJECT.

As you know, since 2020, Bertí school has launched the ERASMUS + student and teacher mobility project called BECOME EUROPEAN MATH CHAMPIONS. Due to the pandemic, it was not possible to start students’ mobilities but, specifically from March 27 to April 1, we were visited for the first time by students and teachers from Croatia, Greece, Italy, Portugal and Romania. Different types of activities related to mathematics were combined, one of the objectives on which the project is based, and cultural activities in order to make our country known, using English as a vehicle language.

On Monday 28th March, we received them with a warm welcome and we had the presence of various personalities from the city of Ametlla del Vallès and the Department of Education of the Generalitat. Each school made a presentation to raise awareness of the most relevant aspects of their countries. From Bertí school we organized workshops for teachers where the different methodologies used in the area of mathematics were taught. In the afternoon, we visited the library of our town and did an activity that had as its main axes the English language, orality and interculturality by the storyteller Patricia McGill. Then, thanks to the Colles de Gitanes de l’Ametlla del Vallès, we were able to enjoy a dance called “Ball de Gitanes” and devils that left us stunned!

On Tuesday 29th March, we shared experiences putting into practice various methods of learning and teaching maths with teachers and students. With the collaboration of the MMACA – Museum of Mathematics of Catalonia – we applied mathematics in various contexts: magic, manipulative games and constructions. It was a day full of knowledge and entertainment. In the afternoon, we witnessed a rehearsal of “Xics”, the group of Human Towers of Granollers. All the students and teachers from the other countries were impressed!

On Wednesday 30th March, we went on a trip to the Miniature Catalonia in Torrelles del Llobregat, which allowed us to recognize emblematic architectural elements of our land. In addition, we were able to learn how they make the models of the buildings and the stairs they use. A good cultural and mathematical learning !!

On Thursday 31st March, we went to Barcelona to meet the work of Antoni Gaudí. We immersed ourselves in the innovative and creative mind of the architect through the interactive and audiovisual technology of “Gaudí Experience”. Next, we entered Parc Güell, walking through one of the most representative spaces in the city. A very enriching cultural visit !! In the afternoon, to say goodbye, we prepared a chocolate party organized by the company that manages the school canteen, CUCA DE LLUM, and we had the help of some families from AFA Bertí.

It has been a very interesting, intense week, full of knowledge and emotions!!!

Now it’s our turn to travel! We look forward to the next mobility, in May in Oporto, where we will learn much more about methods of learning and teaching mathematics.

We are CHAMPIONS !!
