Our students have done an activity where 3 areas have been involved: Math, Music and Physical Education. They have worked on some dances while following symmetry patterns in pairs and in different groupings. ARE YOU READY TO DANCE?

In the  videos 1 and 2 we watch 6th grade students of our school perform a traditional dance of our region called “Kanggeli”, wearing traditional costumes of our country. They are participating in an event to celebrate the liberation of our city of Livadia from the Turks. The basic steps of the dance are 6. Three to the left (step to the left with the right foot, on the spot step with the left, on the spot step with the right) and three to the right (step to the right with the left foot, on the spot step with the right , on the spot with left), symmetrical pattern with respect to the vertical axis of the dancer’s body. Using these basic dance steps, different choreographies are created for each song, which in turn contain symmetrical shapes such as circles (2 circles, one left , one right) or straight lines alternating back and forth or in pairs facing the dancers.

In the video No 3 we watch the dance “Podaraki or Tripati” as it was presented at the end of the Erasmus dissemination day to the students and parents of our school. In the dance the dancers perform 5 steps to the right and 2 taps of the left foot, and 5 steps to the left and 2 strikes of the right foot. The same steps right-left are done on the spot with corresponding strikes left-right.
