Last 7th and 8th June, we worked on maths through different activities. We also have learnt about the European culture and practise English!!
On the first day, in the institutional welcome, we had the opportunity to meet the major of l’Ametlla del Vallès (Barcelona), the Advisor of CRP (Centre of Educational Resources of the area), the major of Livadia (Greece) and the principals of every school to welcome the sessions.
After that, students introduced themselves by talking about their preferences and their schools. Students had to pay attention to everything because on the following day they had to play “Kahoot” to check their understanding.
A breakout activity was prepared. The students from every country had to solve 3 maths enigmas to open a box closed with 6 locks, one for every country. When they knew the answer, a lock could be opened. But… What about the other 5 locks? We talked to each other through a video conference to find out the rest of the codes.
Surprisingly, inside the box, there was a surprise for the students!!
We sang together the song of our project called “We are the champions”, a song that talks about the importance of working hard to succeed, which represents our partnership.
In the afternoon, all teachers attended a workshop titled: “Inclusive mathematics”. The trainer, Jordi Albacete, presented several tasks to work with the students in an inclusive way. He talked about high-ceiling low-ceiling activities, the blank sheet or “Which one doesn’t belong” to illustrate how to deal with inclusivity in the classroom. Next year, we will carry out some of those activities in our classrooms.
On 8th June we continued the activities. A “Maths Contest” was prepared to connect maths and English. Students had to investigate about our culture to answer several questions, like: Which country has the tallest building? the most inhabitants? the longest bridge? the smallest village? the biggest underground glacier? the most number of islands? Students had a lot of fun finding out the answers and also they learnt a lot.
Two interesting and intensive days full of activities, learning and fun!
