6th Mobility to Romania

BERTÍ SCHOOL TRAVELS TO RADAUTI, ROMANIA, IN THE SIXTH MOBILITY OF THE PROJECT ERASMUS + CHAMPIONS

Bertí School is in the final stage of its ERASMUS+ BECOME EUROPEAN MATH CHAMPIONS project and during the week of May 1st to 6th, the sixth mobility took place in Radauti (Romania). On this occasion, students and teachers visited the Scoala Gimnaziala Mihai Eminescu school together with the other countries that are part of the project: Croatia, Greece, Italy and Portugal. During the stay, mathematical and cultural activities have been combined, always using English as the vehicular language.

On Tuesday, we were greeted with a great cultural party, where students dressed in the country’s traditional clothes, put on a wonderful show with typical songs and dances. Next, the visit to the school made it possible to enter the classrooms and meet both teachers and students of various educational levels. Then, some mathematical games, in teams, allowed the participating students to get to know each other better. In the afternoon, we visited the Ethnographic Museum in Radauti, where you can find a collection of elements and objects to learn about the culture and traditions of the area. An egg painting workshop, reproducing an age-old technique, took us fully into the country.

On Wednesday, we spent it getting to know some of the most emblematic places in the Bucovina region. First, we will go to Cacica, seat of a salt mine from 1791. You can access the interior by going down 265 steps, which allows you to visit a museum, a Catholic chapel, another Orthodox chapel, a ballroom and a salt lake. Outside, in front of the mine, is the Basilica of the Ascension, a Roman Catholic church built in 1904 by the Polish community in the area. We continued the route, visiting the Monastery of Voronet (1428) known as the “Sistine Chapel of the East” for the wonderful painted scenes. The blue used in the paintings is so special that it is known as “Voronet blue” in the art world. To end the day, we boarded the Mocanita de Maramures steam train that travels through the area’s spectacular landscapes. An experience that allowed us to travel back in time, using a very common means of transport years ago.

On Thursday, we did several math activities at school. First, an educational robotics activity made it possible to work with and program Makeblock mBot robots and Cozmo, an artificial intelligence robot that speaks and expresses emotions. Also, we were able to experience almost real sensations, as if we were on a roller coaster, while wearing virtual reality glasses. We then held a workshop with 3D printers while creating our designs. A lunch with traditional food and a project commemoration cake closed the day.

We are CHAMPIONS!
